SMB Methodist is one of the best schools in Sarawak with a long history of excellent results in PMR & SPM and it has been proven that SMB Methodist is the leader in academics in Sarawak. However, there was something missing – a school home page. 

        Not long ago, 3 SMB Methodist students, who met on the Internet, thought of a plan to create a home page for the school. The 3 students were Terence Tan, Alexander Wong & Timothy Lim. After a few days of consideration, the group met for the first time at the library to discuss about the creation of the school home page. Later, the group shared their ideas with their principal, Mr. Poh Kee Eng. The principal was very interested & supportive with the idea and he agrees with the home page development. 

        The SMB Methodist Sibu home page development started on December 1996. The main objective was to create an online presence of SMB Methodist on the Internet and its wholly developed by the Internet Club of SMB Methodist, which was founded on March 1997. In the beginning, the school had a simple home page hosted on Geocities using simple HTML commands & light graphics. Development works are limited as the club has limited number of capable students. Training new students was an obstacle during that time as only a small number of students have Internet access at home. With all the odds against the club, the Internet Club was lost in the mist in early 1998. The web team was then merged as a committee group of the computer club. The home page development is still going on but at a slow pace.

        In 1999, the club is back on its feet again. Inspired by Alex Kiu, a close friend of Alexander Wong, a new plan was created to continue the work of the Internet Club. After having a small meeting at the school library, a proposal was created and was then submitted to Mr. Poh for reviewing. On March 23, the Internet Club is officially reopened with Alexander Wong as its President, Alex Kiu as Vice-President, May Ngieng as Secretary & Kelly Wong as Treasurer. This was nothing to celebrate as the club still has a long way to go. A management team was set up and new members were recruited. With proper planning, the club managed to have a systematic way of developing the school home page. With experience web developers & skillful computer users, the club is able to improve and expand the school home page. Now, the SMB Methodist Sibu home page has an Online Notice Board running on CGI, Java-script powered interface, real-audio capabilities & Macromedia Shockwave Flash vector animation.
